Next time when you decide to eat tomatoes then try to have orange ones, since orange tomatoes are healthier than red tomatoes, a new study by the scientists at Ohio State University has transpired this interesting fact.

Tomatoes contain an antioxidant called, lycopene, which is known to fight diseases like cancer, cardiovascular disease and macular degeneration. Researchers agree that red tomatoes contain more percentage of lycopene but our body does not easily digest red tomatoes’ lycopene. While lycopene of orange tomatoes is easily digested, which ensures more supply of lycopene to our body?

Telling about the study results Steven Schwartz, lead author of the study and a professor of food science and technology at Ohio State University said:

The people in the study actually consumed less lycopene when they ate sauce made from the orange tomatoes, but they absorbed far more lycopene than they would have if it had come from red tomatoes.

Results of this study are no doubt, quite interesting but how far they are reliable, nothing could be said about it since, researchers are also not very confident about their findings. Still, it could be said that this study backs up the previous findings that have propounded several health benefits of tomatoes. To have a better idea of those findings go through these links:-
