Only 16% parents worry of kids' computer-related eye strain, experts warn

computer related eye strain not just for adults

Parents and teachers for children at the primary grades, as also at the kindergarten tend to access for computer-provided more directed activities that match their learning objectives. Reasons are simple, it’s easy, fast and unlimited resource-accessible.

But, how many of such parents are aware of the harm computer cause to those tender eyes? Surprisingly, the American Optometric Association has discovered that one out of two children spends more than four hours a day in front of a computer screen!

But, to add to the unfortunate scenario, only 16 percent of adults actually are aware or worry about their children’s eyes, which may be affected by such extended computer time!

A child’s spending too much time in front of a computer screen can lead to eye discomfort, fatigue, blurred vision and most commonly headaches. And, with a prolonged computer use a child may develop Computer Vision Syndrome!

If computer can’t be eliminated from your child’s lifestyle and need, then know that an adult computer workstation may not be suited to your child — who may have to look up at a higher angle than an adult.

Thus, it’s a wiser option to invest in a chair that can be adjusted for your child’s height, as the recommended distance between the monitor and a child’s eye is between 18 and 28 inches.

So, parents to kids using computers for long hours need to add 2 more items to their back-to-school checklist:
* an eye check for their children and
* a review of their computer workstation for possible eye strain causes.
