Scientists fear that with the rise in world’s temperatures with global warming, various infectious diseases will also spread. Scientists on the other hand were up with arms to fight the spread of such diseases – and here they come with one of the solutions – a vaccine for malaria.
Researchers in the United States have developed an experimental vaccine capable of neutralizing the malaria-carrying parasite that lives inside mosquitoes. The vaccine is said to target the microscopic parasite — Plasmodium falciparum – living inside the mosquito’s gut. It blocks the development of the organism, thereby preventing further transmission of the disease.
The research findings are published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA.
