Laugh your way to good health

It has long been proved that laughter is a good medicine Dr. Madan Kataria came up with the idea of laughter yoga 11 years ago. Laughter yoga refers to simple tension-releasing laughter exercises. These exercises increase the net supply of oxygen to the brain and body.

Recently this unusual form of yoga has become very popular. A large number of laughter clubs have come into being. There are over 5000 Laughter Clubs in 40 countries. While laughing the stomach muscles along with chest, neck, and facial muscles are simultaneously used. The muscles that are involved in laughing are tense while aiding you to produce that laugher. After laughing not only the muscles that aided in the production of the laugh, but also all the surrounding muscles relax.

Laughter is nature’s stress buster. A regular 20-minute laughter session can have a profound impact on our health and wellbeing. Studies also support the theory that laughter can produce feelings of well being. These good feelings are due to a decrease in stress hormones that come with the action of laughing. Laughter also appears to have a positive effect on the immune system. And has other health benefits such as, lowering blood pressure, killing some forms of viral cells and reducing different forms of body pain.

It will be a good idea if this concept of laughter yoga is introduced in schools/colleges and other educational institutions including corporate houses.
In corporate houses, human resources department will find the results astonishing as this yoga is directly linked with ‘motivation’ aspect of an employee.
