Is Indonesia really free from the fatal bird flu virus?

Human bird flu deaths in Indonesia have plummeted that has given a ray of hope to the authorities.

Health Minister Siti Fadillah
asserted that the outcome was because of a potent vaccination and slaughtering policy, which led14 out of 33 provinces free of the virus in poultry stocks.

She also gave credit to the ongoing public education campaign.

She said,

‘the drop in cases is because of the success of the government…which is now unified and moving quickly. If the birds are free of the virus, so are humans’.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization stated that it was too early to reach any conclusions. Moreover, it warned that a fall in the ratio does not necessarily mean ending of the problem fully.

Scholars are of the view that the country has not done enough to deal with the ‘virus’ and that they fear it might further mutate into a form that could spread easily between humans and potentially slay millions worldwide.
