Europe’s biggest tobacco market, Germany is soon going to frame some laws that snip the freedom to smoke in public areas like restaurants, discos, schools and other public buildings. However, this law will not target smoking in places like pubs, bars or beer tents.
Germany has jumped into this campaign grudgingly that had been started by countries like Britain, Ireland and Italy; even then, it is a commendable step. According to an estimate, a third of Germans smoke regularly and Germany has the highest percentage of young smokers if compared with her neighboring countries.
It is good that slowly but steadily more and more countries are joining this campaign, aiming to discourage smoking, but it would be better to ban it everywhere.
