Gene therapy may improve movements in Parkinson's patients

gene therapy may ease parkinsons symptoms 9The neurodegenerative disease Parkinson’s is spreading its tentacles with over 1 million people in the US alone affected by it! And in the process, it has by now become one of the most common debilitating diseases in the country.

With the risk increasing with age, one person in 200 will get Parkinson’s Disease during their lifetime, its being more common in men than women, according to ‘healing with nutrition.’

A ‘gene’ — GAD gene — comes with a promising therapy for the diseases’ debilitating effects. Yes, it may help improve movement in people suffering from the disease, and it seems safe.

Interestingly, this gene is injected directly into the brain cells with the help of a ‘virus.’

In Parkinson’s, the gene therapy is found to be capable of calming the excessive firing of neurons down. It does so, by adding the ‘glutamic acid decarboxylase’ or ‘GAD gene’.

The researchers claim this finding as an important step showing ‘proof of principle.’ But, what they hope from neurologists and neuroscientists is that much work is needed to be done — considering this therapy as an effective approach towards the debilitating disease.
