World Bank: Fight against bird-flu requires more funding

According to a new report by World Bank, global efforts to fight bird-flu would require about $US1.2-$US1.5 billion extra funding in the next two to three years. This report further unveils the fact that West African country of Mali would require at least funding of $US1.9 billion, including an extra $US466 million for Africa alone.

The estimate of World Bank seems quite precise because by now most of the efforts to curb the spread of deadly bird-flu have turned futile to some extent, which compel us to re-manage our strategy, tailored to fight this deadly virus. According to an estimate, there were just 16 countries with this virus at the end of 2005 while now the number of countries affected with this deadly virus has reached 55, which clearly indicates the severity of the problem.

However, we should not forget that this fight against deadly bird-flu would not only require more financial aid but also stronger strategy and energy to strike at the root of this deadly virus.
