FDA denies consent on new Nestle formula

Nestle had filed a bid for consent from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for applying its new formula for baby products filed in 2005. It claimed that feeding a newborn with whey-protein partially hydrolyzed methods may reduce the risk of common food allergy symptoms, when replaced with for formulas made from whole-protein cow’s milk.

Abbott Laboratories and Mead Johnson & Co., the near by competitors of Nestle had criticized Nestle petition filed in FDA for seeking approval for its formula. The FDA denied the petition saying that there was no plausible proof to support the claim. Nestle Nutrition North America cited the FDA decision as frustrated and stunned.
