Abbigail and Isabelle Carlsen, the five month conjoined twins from Fargo, N.D finally being separated. The twins, who are in hospital in Rochester since February, were waiting for the surgery. They are connected at the chest and abdomen. They share a liver and parts of their digestive systems. The doctors took time for the surgery because of the complicated connections.
Surgeons at the Mayo Clinic started surgery on May 12. Three dozen doctors, nurses and other specialists are involved in the complex surgery. The team spent long time to study the anatomy of twins in detail before the surgery.
