Over a long time now, we hear about players indulging in intake of stimulants in order to enhance their performance levels. Unknowingly, that drugs not only mar their career but also have certain side effects that could even lead to death. A combination of stimulants and exercise can be lethal, warn doctors.

Ephedra, a chemical cousin to amphetamine, is a stimulant that blocks fatigue and pushes athletes over the edge and into the abyss.

Such a combination has taken lives of certain star performers in the football, baseball, wrestling fields, soldiers and even firefighters. Fatigue is a state of the body that means one should quit. Despite this, those who intake stimulants, do not feel exhausted and carry on with their work resulting in dehydration and shooting up the body temperature. This can be quite fatal resulting in a heat stroke.

Other stimulants, like ProVigil (modafinil), Adderall and Ritalin also come under the same category.
