According to a report there will be 7.6 million cancer deaths out of 12 million cancer cases in 2007 worldwide. This is according to the Global Cancer Facts and Figures, which was released by American Cancer Society on Monday. The majority of deaths are calculated to be in developing countries than the developed ones. The report says that in developing countries out of 6.7 million cases, deaths will be 4.7 million and in developed countries the ratio will be 5.4 million cases to 2.9 million deaths.

There is a major difference in the types of cancer between men and women of developing countries and men and women of developed countries. In developed countries men suffer from prostate, lung and colorectal cancer while in developing countries the commonly found cancer types in men are lung, stomach and liver. The women in developed countries suffer mainly from breast, colorectal and lung cancer whereas those in developing countries suffer from breast, cervix and stomach cancer.

According to the reports 15% of the cancers are due to infection. In the developing countries the reason is also the adoption of western lifestyle, which includes cigarette smoking, increasing rate of consumption of fast food that is calorie dense and of course the reduction of physical activities.

According to the statistics of World Health Organization, out of 1.3 billion smokers in the world, 84% are from the developing countries. This is an alarming report and a lot of awareness programs should be started so that it can be stopped or at least checked at this level.
