Aerobic exercises are performed while using sufficient amount of oxygen. Aerobics are also called as cardiovascular exercises and are generally comprised of using the larger muscle groups of the body. These movements make the heart and lungs function more and make them work harder to pump more oxygen throughout the body.

There are many simple forms of aerobics and you can choose to perform what suits you the best. The commonly practiced aerobics are walking, running, jogging, cycling, swimming or dancing. You can choose to work out on gym equipments that give similar effects like riding a stationary bike, using a treadmill, etc.

Some of the health benefits offered by regular aerobic exercises are:

1.Preventing health problems – As aerobics increases the functioning of the heart and the lungs muscles; they increase the heart rate and blood circulation. Thus these major organs get trained in performing for larger requirements and get used to it. It helps in reducing blood cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure too. It thus reduces the risk of major lifestyle diseases like heart problems, cholesterol, diabetes and stroke.

2.Improves cholesterol – Regular exercises help to reduce the bad cholesterol and help to increase the good cholesterol, thereby improving the functioning of the heart vessels and prevent clogging of arteries.

3.Improves heart functioning – As the cardiovascular exercise make the heart function more in order to pump more oxygen, the blood circulation increases and in return helps the heart to function well. Additionally, it helps to form small new blood vessels thereby increasing the blood supply to the heart and to the entire body.

4.Reduces body fat – Aerobics use large muscles and the movements help in burning calories. These exercises also allow the body to be metabolized and help in reducing the excess fat around the body. These are thus very helpful in weight loss programs.
