AS101: An injection that may protect fertility in men during chemotherapy

Cancer chemotherapy may some times spoil the testes in men. It may cause the loss of fertility in men. The study report was presented in the 22nd annual conference of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology in Prague, Czech Republic.

Mr. Alon Carmely from Bar-Ilan University has said that the injection of a drug, AS101 improves the immune system also protects the fertility in men.

AS101 is a Tellurium-based non-toxic immunomodulatory compound. AS101 have showed chemoprotective effects in animal trials as well as in human trials. It restricts the effect of paclitaxel or Taxol, a widely used chemotherapy drug. However, the mechanism of protection is still unclear.
