If you are suffering from lower back pain, then you are likely to be experiencing either one of the two types of back pain that affect people.

1. Chronic Back Pain
Chronic back pain affects 70 million people the world over. This type of pain is often described as a numb ache in the lower back that radiates down to the legs. It is not easy to overcome chronic back ache through standard medical care.

Daily activities become troublesome and almost impossible for chronic back pain sufferers. Because the pain lasts a long time, it affects those who are working. The pain makes work almost unbearable.

Chronic back pain can arise because of an injury, which may or may not have been healed. It could also arise due to nerve damage or arthritis.

2. Acute Back Pain
Acute back pain is often described as a very sharp pain in the lower back area. Patients with acute back pain can improve after treatment.

Acute back ache may vary at intervals. Because of this people who suffer from acute back pain often manage to work despite the pain.

Acute back ache could arise because of an injury or trauma to the back, but very often its cause is not easy to detect.

Mechanical back pain is a form of acute back pain. It usually gets aggravated by movements or coughing. The best cure for this type of pain is to get rest. Sciatica is another form of acute back pain. It is caused by lumbar disc disease.

How to avoid back pain

Because your back supports most of your weight, you need to take good care of it. A good posture is one of the best ways to ensure you stay safe from back pain. However, good posture doesn’t just apply to when you are standing; it also is applicable for when you are sitting, sleeping, working, etc.

Physical exercise is another must. You don’t have to do heavy exercise to keep fit, a simple walk around the block, along with some stretching should keep you nimble and in good shape. If you are already suffering from back pain, you will have to check with your physician as to the best way to exercise so as to relieve your back pain.
