Revealing Facts about Sleeping Deprivation

A study conducted on sleeping disorders has revealed that mostly parents are deprived of good sleep. In US, this survey clearly shows that sleeping deprivation is quite common among parents. CDC’s Daniel P. Chapman, PhD, MSc conducted a study on sleep deprivation and presented it in an annual meeting held at American Psychiatric Association’s in San Diego.

His study was based on the 2002 data of government health survey in 18 states of US and Washington, D.C over approximately 79,000 adults. The survey includes married parents living with their children, married as well as unmarried adults having no kids and unmarried parents with children.

It is quite interesting to know that parents living with their kids are more deprived of sleep than those living alone. Moreover, mothers reported more inadequate sleep as compared to fathers. According to the data, unmarried mothers suffer more from inadequate sleep as compared to married fathers.

According to the statistics, approximately 36% of unmarried and 34% of married mothers suffer from sleep deprivation. On the other hand, 27% of married and 30% of unmarried fathers suffer from sleep deprivation. Further studies show that 27% of unmarried women and 25% of unmarried men without any children suffers from sleeping disorders. To know more here are a few figures, 21% of married women and 15% of married men with children suffers from sleeping deprivation. Sleeping deprivation of parents is also due to feeding babies, preparing for school project at midnight etc.
