1. The Blackberry 7 OS comes only with new Blackberry smart phones, a user cannot upgrade from Blackberry 6 OS to Blackberry 7 OS.
2. The NFC technology is great, however due to device, service provider and accessory limitations limit the usage of NFC.
3. The new Blackberry seems to be cluttered with too many menus and submenu options. It also confuses users as there are multiple ways of doing a task.
4. The onscreen keyboard (Blackberry torch 9850) is hard to use and can cause inaccurate hits in portrait mode, the keyboard is much better to use in landscape mode, however it covers more than half the screen of the phone which can be very annoying.
5. The BlackBerry apps world takes too long to load and can be very frustrating as it takes about 10 seconds for a category to load.
Things to watch out for
- The Blackberry 7 OS does not offer any legacy support, so older blackberries cannot be upgraded to Blackberry 7.
- The browser on the blackberry 7 OS may have issues when it comes to pinch to zoom or scroll. The browser has a tendency to over magnify pages in a single pinch and it takes time to unpixel.
Verdict
While the blackberry 7 OS does feel better than the Blackberry 6 OS, however the new 7 OS seems to be more of a disappointment considering the hype created by RIM about it. The Blackberry 7 OS lags behind when compared to competitors like the iOS or Android phones. While Blackberry still has a robust enterprise security platform and amazing battery management it still falls short in comparison with the other OS. The lack of third party application support also compounds the problems that users face with the Blackberry 7 OS
However the Blackberry 7 OS does have some amazing features that make is a better OS compared to the previous releases by RIM. As per market reviews are concerned there is a consistent increase in the sales due to exquisite outlook and exotic applications that this OS has.
