Tips to successfully turn a loft into a bedroom

Attic rooms have a charm of their own and can be the most romantic room in the whole house. If you are looking to turn your attic into a bedroom here are some ideas as to how you should go about it.

Tips to successfully turn a loft into a bedroom

  • The roof – Use the slant of the roof to your advantage. Turn the space below into storage areas like a shelf or a bookcase. The slant lends an artistic touch to it instead of being a deterrent.
  • The windows – We all crib so much that we do not have the luxury of natural light. Well, in the attic, you do have that luxury! Maximize on all the natural light flooding in from the windows by choosing colors which illuminate the room. Pastels and whites are perfect for this . All the colors and the natural light will also make the room appear more spacious and airy.
  • The bed – Place the bed facing the windows or just against the window. Do not hold back on a bed when it comes to comfort. Beds should be comfortable no matter where they are. You can also get creative with the bed and use it to add a dash of color to the room with a bold color on the sheets and spreads or on the cushions and the blankets.
  • Other furniture – Purchase furniture based on the side of the loft. There might be constraints like the height of the roof or the space altogether. If you have a lot of space then you can even include a sofa into your bedroom. If you have less space, go for one single item for a seat, like a bean bag or a stool. You can go creative with bold colors for that one single item to contrast the rest of the colors in the room, adding more drama.
  • Decorations – Forego decorations on the walls. The windows are good enough. Place potted plants on the windows where they can also get a lot of sunlight to add an earthly and organic feel to the room. You can hang portraits or paintings on the walls if you have to but do not overcrowd the walls. Minimal is good when it comes to lofts.
  • Rugs – A rug is an important part of the bedroom. Use one that complements the rest of the colors used in the room to create a feeling of warmth and comfort.
