Potty training tips for parents

Starting potty training a child, by no means, is a simple task. It becomes even more difficult when you are a new parent, as tots take their own time to learn and pick up to potty training. Nonetheless, there are some real time tips that can help you to ease down your frustration and potty train your little tot with fun.

Is your child ready?

It is certainly the most important fact to acknowledge, as kids take their own time to learn things. It is always better to learn from your child if he/she is ready for it. Once your kid is ready, it would hardly take him/her time to get started. More than guidelines, they need some time for themselves to be comfortable and confident about potty training.

What’s in the diaper?

Cleaning up baby’s poop is not really funny for parents. Hence, another way of encouraging your tot for potty training is to let him/her know what is in the diaper. You as a parent need to tell your child about where the poop should exactly go. Once, the kid understands that his/her poop is too big for the diaper, it could help him/her to be ready for potty training.

Applauds please!

Kids are always set to do anything that would give them praises and applauds. Applauding them whenever they achieve their task, makes them confident about themselves. Have you ever tried applauding your little one even for trying using potty? Try it this time, you never know your tot would opt for bathroom every time he/she has to vent.

Sitting fears

Usually, kids fear that they would fall in the toilet, and the fear is somewhat rooted. It is quite normal in them. In such a case, coping up with your child and incorporating some easy ways for pooping would be more apt solution than fretting about it. As new parents, you should try to show your child how to sit properly, as your baby would learn it the right way none other than you. In fact, you can try a different sitting posture for your toddler that doesn’t make him/her feel afraid of sitting on the potty seat to make him/her comfortable.

Reward time

Adding money to your kiddo’s piggy bank as a reward for every time he/she uses the toilet is another useful tip for new parents. You can give them a dime to put it in their piggy bank, every time they use potty. Mostly it works, as kids definitely like to get rewards for anything and everything they do.

Potty room

Decorating your bathroom would be another way to lure your child to take up to using pot. Decorating the pot with his/her favorite cartoon character would be a great way to introduce your kid to the pot, and you could keep it for your baby, by calling it your baby’s potty room. A smart gesture as a new parent to start potty training your kid.

Establish routine

As a new parent, you need to keep a vigil and understand your toddler’s needs. It is advisable that you start with some routine for your kid to sit on his/her toilet pot as a part of toilet teaching. It could vary from using potty for 15-20 minutes and in fact, you can set a timer for your toddler. It will definitely help them getting accustomed to using toilet in an established time. This practice comes to immense use when a child is getting ready for his/her preschool time.

Creativity while potty training

Keeping a colorful picture book in your bathroom’s cabinet would greatly encourage your child to spend some time for potty training as well. Your baby can always read the book while using potty. It would be a fun time for him/her to look at and read the colorful books while potty training. Needless to say, it would also inculcate reading habits in your kiddo.

Decorative potty training seats

Using decorative potty training seats could always be a funny way to encourage your toddler to get over nappies and start using potty. There is a variety of potty training sets available in the stores. You can choose for your kid as per his/her choice and interest, and potty time would be a fun time for your little one, making it slight easier for you to train as a new parent.

Discard nappies

Nappy time has gone. Be imperative about the reduced usage of nappies for your toddler. Extensive use of disposable nappies could actually prolong the process of potty training. Buy pants instead, and give them some cartoon character’s name. Tell your child to keep his/her pants dry and see if it works well for your toddler.

Time for Surprises!

Everybody loves surprises, and so does your kiddo! Arrange a big toy bag for your kid and fill it with some inexpensive toys. Give that bag to your baby whenever he/she uses potty. It would be an interactive and fun way to support your child using potty on own. Moreover, once your child is comfortable by using the potty, he/she is more likely to continue, even when the ‘surprises’ are finished.

Play time!

Potty training could be similar to an ordeal for your kid, if you pressurize him/her to do it. As a new parent, it could be frustrating noticing that your child is posing a challenge in terms to learn using potty when his/her friends are readily able to do it. You could buy some interesting games for your kid to keep him/her seated to the potty.

Sing Praises

Your kid has just started with potty training and he/she has been able to be consistent about it. It is a great thing that your toddler did. Singing his/her praises and making him/her feel proud about it, is indeed an effective and nice move to encourage your kid to use potty more frequently.
