Growing Jewellery: When jewelry clashes with gardening…

green ring

Yesterday, we let you scroll through a wondrously green jewelry collection that flaunted simulated diamonds studded on them. Stretching it a little further, the Iceland-based designer Hafsteinn Juliusson has made tiny Icelandic moss plants to grow on stainless steel bases. Were you asking if the foliage remains there forever? No, it doesn’t. However, it keeps lingering on for six months if watered regularly.

Growing Jewellery is a redefinition of modern values. It is a clash of jewelry and gardening; couture and organism. The collection is designed for people in metropolitan cities and is an experiment in drawing nature toward man, as nature being the presupposition of life.

Hafsteinn, 23, wants his creations to be a medium for bringing ‘nature toward man.’ Since the moss requires no pruning, it’s so easy to nurture the vegetation. Priced at 485 pounds a pop, the rings are available with the weed growing inside.
