How to Go Green without Spending Too Much

Go Green without Spending Too Much

We are living in a world where human activity has caused about 50 to 1000 times more extinctions than in the last century would have happened because of natural processes. It is only with time that we, by the virtue of being part of this eco-system, become environmentally more conscious. However, does the term “environmental consciousness” sound like such a task to you? Although it should not, it will not sound as bad when you learn how you can save some money, while you are at it. Presenting to you some simple ways to go green and save money (not disputing the fact that there could be many more ways).

Share:

Whether it is the use of public transport or having a carpool system with your friends, sharing will go a long way in saving this precious energy called fuel and will reduce its impact on the environment. Also, considering today’s fuel prices, sharing is a boon for your pockets. Remember, sharing is caring! Every time you are going to drive down to office as a team, you are saving valuable money and doing your bit for the planet.

Reuse VS dispose:

Instead of buying use and throw products sold for their convenience, wouldn’t it be more sensible to invest on products that can be reused? How about using your own coffee mug instead of the paper cup in the office? You could even reuse that cool gift bag instead of throwing it away. Reduce wastage, save money, as simple as that.

Substitute:

There are so many possibilities with so many added benefits for this one. You could use a bicycle instead of a fuel-consuming vehicle; or hang dry your clothes instead of using the dryer; or use paperless billing; or even use the library instead of buying your own books. If you explore, you will find so many possibilities around you.

DIY:

Take up some ‘do it yourself’ projects and engage in some money saving business. For example, you could start your own vegetable garden. While you are at it, you could make your own compost from your kitchen waste instead of buying the same. For another example, you can make your own cleaning or beauty products instead of buying products, which contain “god-knows-what” chemicals.

Just turn it off:

How many times have you left your electronics or vehicles in standby mode when not in use? How many times have you ignored that leaking sink? All it takes for this one is to just switch it off or just fix it. You will save on a lot and you will feel better.

Be efficient:

Avoid unnecessary wastage and save yourself some money. Switch to energy efficient vehicles and lights, harvest rainwater and do just about anything that will make a positive difference to the environment and your pockets. Many of us might not think of it, but electric cars are a good present option. It is economically viable, the maintenance is good and you do your bit for the environment too.

Avoid where you can:

We do not really have to take our gas guzzling SUV to buy some milk, so go for a walk. Try to avoid the car as and when you can so you can save some money and keep yourself fit in the process. You could use a cycle for such purposes too. Not just does it keep you active and healthy, but also no mileage worry is bliss.

Summary:

It really is not that tough to take a step towards a greener planet. Follow these tips or come up with more of your own. Go green and save money.
