How to decorate a Moroccan themed bedroom

decorate a Moroccan themed bedroom

Arabian Nights is not merely a fantasy or a movie set today. You can have the exact ambiance in your bedroom, the mysterious finely blended with the passionate. For this perfect melange, you should go in for the right shades, fabric, furniture etc. In fact a Moroccan themed bedroom can look extremely stunning. It can also be arranged in not much time if proper guidelines are followed. Remember this, your bedroom is your little sanctuary. If you decorate it properly keeping the theme in mind, there is no need for you to indulge in a passport or a magic carpet. Just keep these instructions in mind.

The right painting

A Moroccan bedroom will always have vibrant bold colors. You have to be daring enough to choose dramatic colors like the warm color of spices or the rich hues of gemstones. Imagine you to be a Bedouin and transform the ordinary room to be an extraordinary oasis. The walls have to be painted in bold colors like sunset orange, cinnamon red or azure blue. Take the consistency into deliberation too.

The walls can be a little coarse. So the painting could have a little weather-beaten look. If you do not want to paint the walls, you could also try out colorful wall papers to bring out the Moroccan theme. Another important aspect is to choose the right paint for the ceiling. Do not go in for a completely drab or contrasting color. Choose something in harmony with the color on the walls. Painted doors, window frames( use stained glass for the panes) will also look amazing.

The right furniture

For a Moroccan themed bedroom, it is not always necessary to buy new furniture. You could assess your old pieces and think about turning them into completely different stuff. Be as creative as possible. You could paint your earlier possessions in vibrant shades or stain them to get an entirely new look. You could also re-upholster your old sofas and chairs in rich shades. Go in for soft fabric like silk and velvet to get that plush feeling.

If you really desire to purchase new furniture, try to loot into flea-markets or garage sales. There you will get the right stuff at the right price. When you shop for the furniture, concentrate on exquisite carpentry, vivid designs which are ornamental to look at. Remember they do not have to be auctioned out antiques. All in all the most important thing is to be able to put across your ideas.

The right accessories

Like anything beautiful has to be festooned by superb accessories, a lovely room should also be adorned by the right kind of accessories. To create the right look, focus on everything including the rugs, the cushions and carpets, the lighting, curios etc.

1. Carpets and rugs – Go in for a rich colored silken carpet or purchase many small rugs of different shades and spread them all over your bed room. They will create that warm, luxurious Moroccan feeling indeed.

2. Cushions and carpets – Use colorful shades for cushions and curtains. Go for exotic fabric like silk, sheer, gauze etc. If you can, try to buy some silk saris and turn them into perfect cushions or even curtains. Throw in some big pillows here and there for the overall effect. Please remember not to have extremely dazzling or big patterns on the curtains. They should be floor length in size.

3. Lighting – Try to light up the room in stained glass lamp shades or pretty hanging lamps. You could also decorate the room with antique-looking lanterns for the Bedouin look. The overall impression has to be warm yet enigmatic. Light up as many candles as possible but do not over do it. It should not look like a over budget dream sequence.

4. Curios – You do not have to be a globetrotter in reality, you just have to show it. Buy small exotic knick-knacks and place them in the bedroom. Use vibrant wall art or mirrors or you could go in for some green plants like the palm in the room.

It is not a compulsion to rub a genie lamp to have the Moroccan look, all you need is the interest and the right eye for it.
