Diabetic nephropathy: A grave complication of diabetes that leads to kidney failure over the time. Doctors at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, have identified a set of urine proteins almost 10 years before the onset of diabetic nephropathy that identify those who will go on to get diabetic nephropathy. Though in the infancy stages, but this development is a sure hope for the doctors that in future they will be able to save a lot many patients from falling a prey to this deadly ailment by detecting the ‘signature protein’ that’s highly predictive of development of Diabetic nephropathy.
Once they confirm the identification of the proteins in a patient, he can be put to a precautionary treatment to save him from the devastating condition.
