Hong Kong bans smoking in public places

If you love smoking then Hong Kong is surely not a right place for you as with the beginning of year 2007, Hong Kong administration has come up with such a declaration that may taste bitter, especially to the smokers. Actually, from now onwards, no body would be allowed to smoke in public places like restaurants, workplaces, schools and karaoke lounges, beaches, sports grounds, etc. However, places like nightclubs, bars, mah-jongg parlors, bathhouses have been kept away from this ban.

This is good news because according to an estimate of Hong Kong Council on Smoking and Health, smoking kills about 5,700 people every year and at the same time, health care costs due to active and passive smoking reaches about $240 million a year. We can say that with this ban Hong Kong has moved one-step ahead towards making Hong Kong a city of healthy people.
