Yes, it is said laughter is best medicine, and now the researchers had confirmed that the laughter, along with an active sense of humor, may help protect you against a heart attack and heart diseases.

We all know that exercising, quit smoking and eating less fatty food reduces the risk of heart disease, adding to it, a regular, hearty laughter may  be more beneficial says Dr. Miller.

Laughing is an aerobic exercise that provides workout for the diaphragm and increases body’s ability to use oxygen. A Belly laugh (loud deep hearty laugh) can help in cardiac conditions and people who are unable to perform physical exercise.

Laughter expands the blood vessels that improves the blood circulation of vital organs and keeps heart disease away.

Laughter is a great relaxant. It reduces at least four of stress Hormones (neuroendocrine) associated with stress response including epinephrine, cortisol, dopac, growth hormone. It replaces negative emotions with positive and keeps us happy for longer duration.

Various clinical studies have shown that humor strengthens the immune system. Laughter brings in positive emotions that can help greatly to enhance the effect of conventional treatments.

A hearty laughter is known as a great pain distracter.  Good humor help person to “forget” about pains such as aches, arthritis, etc. Experts say that laughter can reduce pain and aid the healing process.

The frequent belly laughter; similarly as deep breathing, helps to improve lung functioning. Laughter therapy had been found effective in helping reducing the symptoms of various lung diseases and controlling hypertension also.

Above all laughter is free and no side effects are associated with it. A healthy regular laughing provides physiological, psychological and spiritual benefits.

It is rightly said by Sebastian Roch, “The most wasted day of all is that in which we have not laughed.” We have been born with the gift of laughter; it’s being serious that we learnt.
