Is globalization giving way to health risks?

globalization 64
With the swelling tide of globalization no doubt, world economy is destined to clinch new landmarks but this picture has other side too, which is somewhat bleak, means this so-called globalization has given health experts a reason to worry about. Main cause of worry, according to these experts, is the increasing number of people and good crossing the borders everyday. In the words of Lain Simpson, a spokesman for WHO:

There are a growing number of health problems linked to the increasing number of people and goods crossing the borders every day, because disease crosses the borders in people and goods.

The concern expressed by experts or officials like Lain Simpson, sounds quite plausible, as the increasing interaction between the people, dwelling in different countries is augmenting, resulting which their susceptibility to diseases, especially contagious diseases is increasing.

Due to this very reason, World Health Organization considers followings as the main priorities in the years to come:

The threat posed by emerging infectious diseases, such as influenza and SARS.

The easier spread of disease around the globe due to the movement of people and tainted goods as part of the global economy.

The need to better manage international health disasters, such as tsunamis and earthquakes.

Awareness of biological and chemical terror threats.

The effects of global warming.

AIDS.

After going through the concerns, expressed by experts, one thing can certainly be asserted that with this boom in globalization, no doubt, economy is set to encroach upon new heights but people’s susceptibility to deadly diseases seems to be accrued. And the outbreaks like bird-flu, HIV/AIDS, SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) seems to be propping this view.

Therefore, time has come when we shall have be to be more vigilant against the spread of diseases that are constantly hovering over the so-called concept of globalization and are imperiling the prosperity that has come with the boom in world economy.
