A recent study says that the flaxseed may be helpful and it can give a little bit relief from menopausal hot flashes.

This discovery related to flaxseed is yet to be testified, there is no full proof surety that it would give some relief from hot flashes.

In this small study it was discovered that female’s problem of hot flashes reduced to at least 50% by consuming at least two tablespoons of crushed ground flaxseed, 2 times per day, it was to be included into their foods.

The lead researcher of the study was Sandhya Pruthi, MD, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Sandhya Pruthi’s with the team of researchers observed nearly 29 females who had the problem of having at least 14 hot flashes in a week for nearly a month & they were also not on estrogen medication to get some relief from these menopausal symptoms.

The females did not begin to consume the flaxseed immediately. First of all they recorded their hot flashes and their way of living in a dairy in the previous week. During this period of 6 weeks the females wrote about their hot flashes & also told if they had any side effects due to its consumption.

After that first week, the females were given crushed flaxseed by the scientists & they were asked to mix two tablespoons of the flaxseed in their eatables like cereal, any liquid or drinks or fruits two times regularly for at least for six weeks.

During the end of this flaxseed study, the scientists got collected enough data on hot flashes from 21 females out of rest others.

The result says that the female’s regular hot flash problem reduced to 50% while they took the flaxseed. The study subjects told that they have noticed improvement to some extent in their problems like mood swinging, pain in joints or muscular pain & it also lowered their chilling & sweating problem. These flaxseeds not only ease the problem of hot flashes, but it also beneficial for health.

The side effects of the flaxseed were — abdominal bloating in at least 14 females & mild diarrhea were seen in 8 females.

This research was limited as it had very less subjects to follow & one important thing is that there was also no comparison group of females consuming the flaxseed. The researching team mentioned that further more research is needed in this particular field.

The study published in the Journal of the Society for Integrative Oncology.
