Coloring compound in veggies, fights colon cancer

lots of vegetables
Secret of fighting deadly colon cancer might be lying in your veggies, as anthocyanins, which are compounds known for giving color to most red, purple, and blue fruits have been found promising better protection against colon cancer. This was revealed by a study, conducted by Ohio State University.

These findings sprang out after tests on rats and human colon cancer cells showed that anthocyanins significantly slackened the growth of colon cancer cells.

Interestingly, slightest modification in the structure of anthocyanins molecules enhanced its anti-cancer properties.

With this finding many avenues of hope has been formed for millions of patients around the globe. Moreover, it could be construed as a beacon for the efforts being made to fight this deadly disease, which is notorious for taking around 655,000 lives in a year only. In addition, it would come as a relief for the majority of Americans, as colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States, accounting for about 20 percent of all cancer deaths.
