Bill Gates: Funding for malaria eradication

Bill Gates is giving out a global malaria grant of $260mn to British scientific research community and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. Janet Hemingway, director of the Liverpool school has pointed out that Mr. Gates funds will account for only 10 percent of what is required to fully eradicate malaria, which takes the lives of 2.7 million people every year.
However the funds will be helpful in securing significant proportions of insecticides and bed nets, thereby facilitating a diversion of the epidemic from the grassroots level.
As far as grants for a vaccine is concerned the Liverpool researchers need not worry as Gates said he intends to give away 90 per cent of his fortune, for healthcare.
