Beer contains xanthohumol which may prevent prostate cancer

Cancer Letters has published a study of researchers of Oregon State University. It states that an ingredient in beer may prevent prostate cancer and enlargement. The ingredient, xanthohumol, restrains NF-kappaB protein in cells alongside the surface of the prostate gland.

The protein acts as a pointer, which turns on the animal and human malignant cells. The researchers say further that the xanthohumol in a cell culture obstruct the signal of NF-KappaB protein. It works to reduce the growth of prostatic hyperplasia and malignant prostate cancer cells.

Xanthohumol comes in the group of plant compounds called flavonoids. It can generate programmed cell death, which plays a role in cancer prevention. Now, most importantly, beers usually contain such a small quantity of Xanthohumol that 17 beers will make any effect. Further research is going into this matter.
