Food pyramid

Maintain health while working

While it is important to work, achieve success and struggle for all other aspirations, it is necessary to pay attention to your diet. It often happens that you tend to eat whatever is available in how much ever quantities. This is partly due to long hours of work without breaks and improper planning of diet and nutrition. When you are working so hard for yourself, you need to make sure that you do not succumb to unhealthy food as it can affect your health.

Balanced Diet

The only secret to leading a healthy life and planning a proper diet and nutrition regimen is to have balanced diet. It can not only help you to keep yourself healthy and fit, but also save you from having hunger bouts and episodes of binge eating.

balanced diet

A balanced diet comprises of all the food groups in required proportions. For example,

  • Carbohydrates, like wheat, rice in the form of bread, pasta, etc
  • Proteins like eggs, soya, beans, etc
  • Milk and dairy products,
  • Water – Plenty of water should be taken in any form.
  • Fruits and vegetables in raw and cooked forms

In order to understand the use of these groups, a ‘Food Guide Pyramid’ or ‘My Plate’ can be used.

An ideal diet should comprise a main combination of carbohydrates, whole grains a healthy alternative and should substitute processed refined starchy food. For example, avoiding cakes, biscuits, white bread and replacing it with whole wheat bread, whole grain pasta, brown rice, etc.

Proteins are available in vegetarian and non vegetarian form. For example, soya, beans, lentils, etc are vegetarian forms. Fish, eggs, meat, etc are non vegetarian forms and choosing those foods with less amount of fat is necessary.

Plenty of fruits and vegetables should be included as they offer vitamins and minerals required for health. They also provide roughage and prove to have antioxidant properties.

Fats and sugars should be used in less quantity and better be used occasionally.
