Back fracture inevitable after stem cell transplant!

back fractureIf you sustain back fracture after undergoing stem cell transplantation, then there is nothing to wonder about, as back fracture is quite common after stem cell transplant, claim Finnish researchers.

According to them, more than one third of children and adolescents who undergo allogenic stem cell transplantation suffer bone thinning.

They came up with this claim after evaluating the bone health of 44 children, few years after they underwent stem cell transplantation. When these children underwent stem cell transplantation, their age was around 10 years old, however, during the analysis they were 18.5 years of age or younger. As per the report coming out of this analysis, 16 of these patients had conspicuous evidences of bone thinning and it was more specifically found around the hip area. It was also noticed that out of these patients 20 had vertebral fractures, while five had other fractures. Interestingly, seven of the nine vertebral fractures caused no symptoms.

With this revelation, it could easily be stated that people, especially the kids undergoing stem cell transplantation should better be taken care of, for only then they could be kept away from the side effects that flock with bone thinning.
