Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a boon for people with disabilities. This act allows them to live with dignity, the respectable life they deserve. The ADA was signed into law in 1990. According to this law, the people with disabilities are confirmed to enjoy equal rights similar to any other citizen.

The ADA aims to protect the civil and employment rights of people with disabilities. It lays rules to protect their rights in all aspects like employment, public transportation and other public services. It also assures that equal opportunity should be provided to people with disabilities as regards, access to restaurants, public places, shops or any other place that can is visited by other civilians.

According to this act, an employer cannot discriminate qualified individuals on the basis of their health factor. If candidates fulfill the requirement of the position based on their qualification and deserve the job, they cannot be discriminated for their disability. They own the right to receive all the facilities and benefits offered to any other individual and with the same dignity.

There are strict laws governing that there is no humiliation of any kind and the respect of the disabled employee should be maintained. The law states that any pre-employment medical investigations and other assessments should be related to the job and the particular position.

The ADA Act also states the necessity to make the appropriate modifications in the infrastructure and other facilities so as to suit the needs of the employees with disabilities. These are considered as reasonable accommodations, under which the necessary provisions should be made by the organizations to enable those employees to work comfortably.
