Definition:
Breast lift also known as mastoplexy, is a cosmetic surgery performed to raise and firm sagging or drooping breast by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue. After the surgery patient had a new shape and contour of the breast.
Advantages and Disadvantages:
Advantages:
- Surgery corrects the drooping(ptosis) of breast.
- Restores the youthful appearance that ultimately enhances the confidence of patients
Disadvantages:
- Breast lift surgery can lead to misinterpretation of diagnosis
- Difficulty in breast feeding
- May need to repeat surgery
Risks and Complications:
- Unfavorable scarring
- Bleeding (hematoma)
- Infection
- Poor healing of incisions
- Changes in nipple or breast sensation, which may be temporary or permanent
- Anesthesia risks
- Breast contour and shape irregularities/ Breast asymmetry
- Damage to deeper structures
- Fatty tissue deep in the skin could die (fat necrosis)
- Excessive firmness of the breast
- Potential partial or total loss of nipple and areola
- Deep vein thrombosis, cardiac and pulmonary complications
- Persistent pain
