Water possesses viscous, solid-like properties at molecular level

the structure of water 9Ah! It seems there is more to H2O than what has been known for ages. Known for all its goodness to humans and environment, and its easy flowing nature that needs no efforts, water is surprisingly found to have defying properties at the molecular level.

Yes, the Georgia Institute of Technology researchers have interestingly and surprisingly revealed viscous, even solid-like properties of water at the molecular level.

Forced to move through a small gap between two solid surfaces, the viscosity of the water molecules increase by a factor of 1,000 to 10,000. This is near to forming molasses!

With his results standing at odds with long-held beliefs about water, Landmann directing the team of physicists simulating the experiment, said,

The literature almost uniformly said that water doesn’t layer. Without direct evidence it was inferred that water would behave differently from those liquids that do.

Fascinating in itself, the new discovery can be applied in fields ranging from pharmaceuticals to nanotechnology. This newly found ‘water viscosity’ can provide a cheap method for lubricating very narrow regions.
