Last month, aeronautic machinists Adam Turnbull and Dan Melling made their “Roofliss” amphibious van cross the Cook Strait in New Zealand’s South Island. The journey through Waikawa Bay Marina to Mana Marina took them 10 hours at 5 knots (5.8mph or 9.3kph) in the water and 100kph (62mph) on land. The 1990 Toyota Townace made matt black DIY boatvan cost $2000 and was built in five months.
