Tips to bring up confident children

bring up confident children

Parenting is a challenging job because it is not only about physical well-being but also developing confident children who will grow up to be independent individuals with the right values. Confidence in children will help them face all challenges in life positively and make them an asset to the society as well.

Children and Mental Growth

Studies show that 95% of a person’s psychological makeup occurs before they reach the age of seven years. Hence, these are the critical years of a child’s life when parents must give them a lot of care and affection. Parents must not only nurture the children but also provide the essential training and education so that they grow correctly. Everyone wants the best for their child; however, putting undue pressure to succeed or letting them slack off by pampering them are equally harmful to the child’s self-confidence.

Having an Objective

As far as our children’s upbringing goes, the most important objective we must set for us is to ensure their well-being. We must treat children in a manner that will help them develop their elf-esteem and feel loved, worthy, adequate and empowered. Children who feel good about themselves lead a happy and healthy life and do things they love and make them truly happy. Further, they feel empowered to handle crisis practically, optimistically and with grace and dignity.

Need for a Positive Self Image

A positive self-image is important for children to feel good about them and make them confident of their abilities. Children who are not self-confident often grow up to be bullies, abusers, alcoholics, addicts, criminals or drifters. Children without a positive self-image generally feel inferior and insecure, and grow-up with a lot of pent-up anger and frustration making them destructive. The most important thing for children is to grow with self-esteem.

Creating the Right Environment

Parents may adopt or follow a few steps to provide children a positive environment for their growth.

1.  The right culture

Parents must start with ascertaining the right culture is practiced at home with the right family values that are aligned to the objectives to help children develop self-esteem. The culture may include compassion, acceptance, forgiveness, patience, compassion, encouragement, and kindness.

2.  Concentrating on the present

Make a commitment to concentrate on your child’s present day, especially during their formative years. This helps the child develop security and self.

3.  Effective parenting strategy

Understand your child’s needs before developing a strategy on how to deal with them in different situations.
