STEMcloud 2.0 O2 formulation machine will breed micro-ecologies virtually

STEMcloud 2.0 O2 formulation machine

Claudia Pasquero and Marco Poletto, founders of ecoLogicStudio, unveiled their latest project, the STEMcloud 2.0 at the Beyond Media Festival in Florence. The project proposes the development and testing of an architectural prototype that functions as an oxygen-formulating machine. The STEMcloud 2.0 technological matrix will function as a breeding ground for micro-ecologies found in the local river of Seville and will encourage people to involve in the breeding process.

The architectural system’s transparency and porosity is the reason for the process to be visually and materially exposed to the microclimate of the gallery. The public visiting the system will feed the colonies present in the river water with nutrients, CO2 and light, which will result in oxygenating the gallery space along with the growth process of the micro-ecologies.

Cybernetic loops:

The three components that together make the basic cybernetic set for the Seville include the urban environments (the river ecology and the gallery space), the architectural machine (STEMcloud) and human behavior (the visitors). These three diverse, multilayered systems interact in a number of ways, and the upshot is diverse. Everything including the kind of equilibrium, algae ecologies and the visitors reacting is unpredictable. A conversation/learning process comes as a result, thanks to the STEMcloud that makes for communication among the systems in a unique way. In the process, the visitors transform into ecologists, the STEM blocks into microhabitats and the gallery into an oxygenating garden.

There are three machinic feedback cycles, the first involves the organic growth in relationship to radiation field, and the second cycle deals with the organic growth in relationship to nutrients concentration whereas the third one involves oxygenation to the frequency of usage.
