The UK’s “Blues” team, while competing in the U.S Department of Energy Solar Decathlon competition in Washington, D.C, will display their S-KY BLUE home. The 800-square feet home is a completely off the grid construction with solar panels along its sides and roof to power air-conditioners and other appliances as well. The Kentucky-native plants surrounding the deck add to the visual appeal of this Lexington home. The home also touts 100% access to natural sunlight and has custom-built cabinets by students.

Once the home is put on public display at the National Mall in Washington on Oct. 5, it will be reviewed in 10 categories: engineering, hot water, architecture, market viability, communications, lighting design, comfort, appliances, energy balance and home entertainment. As of now, the solar-powered home is undergoing the testing phase.
