Shell opens hydrogen fueling station in NYC

la shell hydrogen station 450
New York City will have its second hydrogen fueling station, maybe to detour the masses from gasoline still further. Shell, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the US Department of Energy and General Motors jointly have opened it at JFK international airport. Shell looks forward to continue the streak in bringing one more to NYC, in the Bronx, soon. That will ensure the deploying of Shell’s first cluster of hydrogen filling stations.

The prospects for hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles are strong in the longer-term. This first cluster is an important step as we continue to build capability in retailing hydrogen fuel, in line with the auto makers’ plans to develop hydrogen vehicles.

—Duncan Macleod, Shell Vice President of Hydrogen

Yes, it will go on to jolt the auto-maker’s psyche for sure.

Since hydrogen is generally produced from water electrolysis technology, wherein hydrogen is stored by the facility, it’s the most eco-friendly method. Shell uses this technology, which offers zero-carbon hydrogen. The gas, thus produced, will be provided at 350 bar and 700 bar pressure via the dispensers at JFK International Airport Station.
