The Brazilian Foreign minister(FM)Celso Amorim recently suggested that UN should create a separate body to look over the environmental matters. Given the ever escalating number of environmental issues, it is critical that the UN create a separate branch to take care of them. This should be a joint effort of all the countries throughout the world.
This kind of organization will help the in monitoring international environmental issues. The Brazilian FM cited the example of a recent incident in which, cooperation between China and Brazil helped save Amazon rain forests. Not only Mr.Amorim, but also other important world leaders have the same idea for the UN.
The French President Jacques Chirac also thinks that there should be a separate UN agency controlling the environmental issues of the world. According to Mr.Chirac, a protected environment is a fundamental human right. I think this is very true. Also, I think that UN should form a strong environment agency by all means.
It seems like some of the nations are taking way too long to form intergovernmental Panel on climate change. Hopefully they will act soon enough and before it’s too late. The two-day ministerial environmental meeting was held in Rio De Janeiro. There were about 22 nations who visited the meeting. Reps from UN also attended this meeting.
