Painting the baby’s nursery

Parents starts preparing for the requirements of their expected baby beforehand. Decorating and furnishing baby’s nursery requires prior planning. Parents try to add personal touch to the room by painting the walls on their own. It is the best way to show their love and warmth for the baby. There are a few steps and points to be kept in mind while painting the baby’s nursery.

1. Preparing the room for painting

The best practice is to clear the room of all its belongings. This would ensure a free and clear passage for the person carrying out the painting work. However if this is not possible, all furniture and other objects should be bought in the center of the room and covered properly so that they are not disfigured by paint drops. This also gives area for movement for the person who is undertaking the paint job.

The edges of the floor should be masked. This would not allow the paint to seep and damage the space in between and clearly highlight the junction of the walls. The windows and door should always be open and air circulation should be free so that any fumes of the paint are not inhaled and there is fresh air to breath at all times.

2. Color scheme

Deciding on the color scheme is the main factor. There is a variety of colors and shades available nowadays and the best one can be chosen from the market. The colors can be matched with the shade cards available and the ones best suited for the room can be taken. Bright colors add to spark where as softer colors add to the style. It should be seen whether the color compliments the other objects and decorative items in the room. A baby over a period of time is able to recognize colors and is very attracted towards bright colors. So, there can be a well mix of bright and neutral colors on the walls.

3. Painting styles

Choosing to paint a single wall or different walls to give variety to the room can be undertaken. It should be kept in mind that this color should complement the color on the other walls. The ceiling is the place where the baby sees initially so it could be decorated creatively for the baby to look at. The baby can see colors after some weeks of birth. It can be painted with themes in various colors.

Painting stripes on the walls is another form of creative stuff that can be used in the baby’s nursery. A colorful wall mural can be done on one of the walls which would catch the attention of the baby and add to creativity of the room.

4. Painting furniture and other items in the room

Painting furniture and other objects can add to the vibrant surroundings of the room. This can add variety and color to the overall theme of the baby’s room.

Though painting is a fulfilling and satisfying exercise in itself but few things have to be taken care of in the process. As discussed above the room being painted should have proper air circulation to begin with. This is to avoid harmful vapors from some of the wet paint available. However one should try to use lead free paints which are not harmful at all. No parent wants that their baby should breath in a toxic environment.

The use of a safe paint would ensure a safe breathing environment for the baby. Nowadays the ceramic wall paint is the best paint for a baby’s room. This is free from any toxic substances and is odorless. So keeping a few small things in mind can make painting the baby’s room a very pleasurable and satisfying experience. This effort would stay around the baby along the journey of growth and learning years.
