Malaysia open for long-tailed macaques trade

long tailed macaques in malaysia

Malaysia is no longer happy-go by with monkeys. Having become a nuisance for the locals, the Malaysian government has decided to lift the ban on long-tailed macaques’ trade.

Long after the export of monkeys was banned in native Malaysia for their dwindling numbers, it is time for the country to lift the same for the surging population of the long-tailed macaques. With the lifting of the ban, such a special kind of species will get endangered in the country, currently flooded with the same.

The species is most profoundly found in south-east Asia.

The Malaysian Government decided to lift the ban after it found the macqueral species indulging in nuisance as stealing food, raiding crops, mangoes, coconuts and irritating and biting locals, another example of Man-animal conflict.

Rainforests are the prime habitat of the macaques, which have long been used for laboratory experiments. It is feared that the export of such a species considered as would increase their slaughter on testing grounds. Fears are also high that such a species if moved to non-native places may become a threat to biodiversity there.
