As you and I ponder over what to do to combat global warming, a troupe of around 600 men and women, young and old marched naked on a glacier in Swiss Alps to awaken those sleeping in slumber and indifferent to the upcoming climate change.
It is often said, when calamity beckons, humans find different ways to raise their voice and the cheerleaders of Greenpeace found no better way than a naked parade on a glacier, so that their cries reach those sleeping callously besides an impending global warming disaster.
Greenhouse gas emissions have already done the damage to the environment. Environment has already warmed enormously. And the melting glaciers, incessant rains and flooding, droughts, recurrent storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, and cyclones, earthquakes and volcanoes are already being witnessed around the globe.
If global warming continues to have its sway, earth will be deprived of life in the forthcoming century.
Lukewarm response to tackling climate change spreading around the globe like a cumulus cloud, threatening life, is no solution to the problem. Nations must find means of curbing their emissions if world and humanity has to survive.
Nothing more alarming that the naked parade by the Greenpeace volunteers can open the eyes of the world leaders busy in raising their economy and working callously towards curtailing global emissions. They have to ponder now as to what compelled those to parade without clothes. Or learn to live in a pressure cooker. Yes, something extremely bad is about to happen.
