Giant sculpture made from recycled waste raises recycling awareness

A lot is being said and done to draw people’s attention toward environmental issues. To raise awareness of recycling, an eco-charity has unveiled a giant structure, which was made using recycled materials. Designed by a creative artist named Bodge, the sculpture is the second in a series of three. The sculpture recently unveiled is a red kite placed near Llandrindod Wells. Standing 19.6ft tall, this innovative work of art made from recycled waste is a true depiction of Bodge’s environmental concern.

His earlier work was a pair of 16ft tall hands positioned near Newtown, Powys, in March. The hands, which were destroyed by vandals within in a month’s time, were made from plastic bags, drink cans and old newspapers. The third sculpture of the series will be erected in the Brecon area later in the year.

All these brilliant sculptures are a part of a green campaign called “Recycle for Powys.” They have been commissioned by Powys Zero Waste, Powys council and have been funded through a grant from the Welsh Assembly Government.
