Emotion teaching robot for autistic kids

Laura Chun Urquiaga’s ‘Build-A-Robot’ is going to drop in a ‘humane’ touch to assist autistic kids. This wooden robot from the house of Plan toys featuring four interchangeable heads, can effectively teach and help kids to recognize certain emotions like happiness, sadness, anger and surprise.

Eco design

Conceptualized and designed by an ex-photojournalist Laura Chun Urquiaga, Plan Toys has produced this wooden robot in collaboration with an expert panel of ASD( Autism Spectrum Disorder) therapists, researchers as well as patients. Build-A-Robot has been manufactured in close resemblance with nature. It’s made up of organic, kiln dried, reclaimed rubber wood, water based dyes and non formaldehyde glue in a plant powered by biomass and solar energy. The robot’s interchangeable heads help children easily pick up human emotions in a more visual and descriptive manner. Apart from emotions, Build-A-Robot also presents a vivid depiction of sensory experience. The motors and connectors make it easy to detach and change postures of the robot.

Why is it great

Build-A-Robot is one of the first product of its kind that attempts to provide assistance to autistic children. Its emotion depicting heads can be shuffled, making it easier for kids to understand. This robot has been fabricated entirely by eco friendly elements, making it safe and organic. Build-A-Robot will also cater to parent’s requests for a toy that does not resemble a special aid tool. Autistic as well as non autistic kids would find it appealing enough to play with it.
