Serbian designer Damjan Stankovic introduces a highly practical concept for traffic lights that promotes safer driving and helps preserve the environment as well. Having a circular progress bar on the red light, the Eko Traffic Light keeps on pacifying drivers with accurate info on how long they need to wait. Drivers can turn their engines off and ultimately, may help in keeping carbon emissions under check.
This counter would divide the time spent at traffic lights with a number of segments and then slowly turn them off one by one. It is possible to change the length of time in the same way as it is altered on current traffic lights.
The Eko Light is equally beneficial for pedestrians too. The Red Dot design-winning prototype still needs some ‘tweaks’ and it awaits a few manufacturers to exploit what’s on paper right now.
