Designing a Nursery in budget

As the time for your baby’s birth approaches, you want to start preparing things in advance. Designing nursery is one of those task that needs prior planning. This room has to be special, soothing and comfortable. Before you begin designing your nursery you have to keep a few things in mind like theme, list of things required, color, safety and budget. When you list all the articles you may find them overpowering and expensive. But it is possible to make beautiful baby nursery in a budget. Try to take care of the following steps and you will be able to build a dream room for your baby.

1. Decide your budget

It is best that you are clear on the amount you want to spend on building this nursery. When buying for your baby it is easy to get carried away, so plan your budget carefully. The cost of baby furniture is certainly not less. To build a bedroom for your baby with well built and stylish furniture can cost you good amount of money so be clear on how much you want to spend before you start decorating.

2. Furniture

You will have to invest intelligently on furniture. Choose few pieces that you want to be the focus of the room. It is better to have furniture of high quality and one that can adapt itself to the adjustments as your baby grows. For example, it is advisable to buy a good dressing table as it will suit your child even as a teenager. Also when buying a crib it is advisable to buy a convertible one so that it can be converted into a toddler’s bed.

3. Accessories

It is always wise to spend less on accessories such as lamps, curtains and nets. These change from year to year. As your baby grows you will have to keep changing all these keeping your child’s preference in mind. Beautiful and decorative accessories are available in many designs, like footballs to fairies and cow boys to princesses. These can be bought from stores that offer them at a low price so you can change them every year and they do not drain your purse strings.

4. Safety

Style should always come in second when you design a room for your baby. Do not look at price when you have to buy things that have to be absolutely safe, like a mattress. It should address issues like giving antibacterial protection. Do not hang accessories that can be dangerous in the baby’s room especially after your child begins crawling. Also keep the crib away from window curtains and be sure to remove all the stuffed toys from your baby’s crib once the baby goes to sleep.

5. Using old furniture

You don’t have to buy all new things for your baby’s room. You can give your old furniture a new lease of life. Like an old drawer bureau can be repainted and arranged in a beautiful way. You can add alphabets to the drawers, and paint it with different colors. An old trunk can be repainted and use to keep the baby’s clothes. Many stores offer easy and not very costly hand painting kits.

6. Keeping it fresh

Well some people still stick to the age old color scheme of keeping it blue for the boy and pink for the girl. You don’t have to follow this. It’s best to experiment and keep it fresh because as your baby grows, your child may not like to stick to this scheme of things. Be creative, use bolder colors and decorations. These need not be bought all new. You can paint the walls with the theme you like, like a fairyland or Peter Pan. You can place hand painted furniture in the room, and put fancy shaped rugs like strawberries or flowers.

7. Practical furnishings

Remember when you buy curtains and other fabrics for your nursery try to buy ones that are easy to maintain. You will realise that when your baby is a toddler these are the areas that are most difficult to maintain. So go for fuss free fabrics and carpets that are stain resistant.

With these simple steps you can create a perfect nursery.
