Danish wind turbine goes smart with built-in anemometer

Researchers worldwide are trying their level best to cater to the energy needs of a progressive world. And beyond a doubt, it’s through the renewable technologies and ensuing improvements they can think of meeting them. Denmark’s Risø National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy proudly reveals a new design for a wind turbine that adapts to the varying wind conditions. Since initial tests successfully flaunted the efficacy of a built-in anemometer, it’s a breakthrough – pure and simple.

The system utilizes a laser dubbed the Wind LIDAR to foresee the wind when it’s a long way. Accordingly, the turbine blades adjust themselves to what the laser predicts. This new technique enhances electricity production by 5% and subsequent increased revenue of about $39,000 per year for a 4MW wind turbine.
