Bay Adelaide Centre, Toronto’s first structure to receive the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Standard has finally seen its officially opening. Built by Brookfield Properties Corporation and its Canadian-based subsidiary, BPO Properties Ltd., the 51-storey building is the first major development over the past 17 years. Special attention has been paid to making the tower as eco-friendly as possible.

The 1.2-million-square-foot office tower is made using local and recycled building materials and special care is taken for optimization of energy, water and light. In addition, there is a state-of-the-art operating and life safety system. In a ceremony the Bay Adelaide Center’s urban plaza was named in honor of Gordon E. Arnell, who has served as Brookfield Properties Corporation`s Chairman since 1995.
